THE LAW OF TWELVE by Dennis Gaumond
At all levels of creation -
in all realms, there are specific laws and patterns according to which Energy
behaves. In our world there are many laws with which we are becoming familiar.
Some of these, such as inertia, refraction, etc., we learned about in our
high-school physics class. Other natural laws are in the domain of more
sophisticated science. There are many
ways in which energy 'likes to behave' and science is discovering more and more
of them.
Also, there are those laws
that are outside the current realm of science. Many of them have been referred
to in ancient writings and traditions such as Tantra, alchemy, Hermetic magic,
Qabala, shamanic rituals, etc. One of these is sometimes called the Law of
Twelve or the Law of Octaves or the Second Fundamental Law of the Universe. For
some reason, energy tends to break down in divisions of 12. In fact, 12 is a
very significant number which appears over and over in many contexts throughout
history. We have 12 months in the year and 12 signs of the Zodiac, 12 hours on
a clock-face, 12 tribes of Israel, 12 gods in the Greek pantheon, 12 apostles
surrounding Jesus who would be the 13th, etc. There are far too many examples
to list here.
Music also adhere's to this
pattern. There are 12 notes in an octave, counting all the semitones. In other
words, if you counted all the white keys and black keys on a piano, starting at
middle C, there would be 12 before arriving at the start of the next octave,
treble C - the thirteenth note.
In geometry it is noted that
if a sphere had other equal sized spheres perfectly packed around it, each of
them touching its surface, there would be 12 such spheres. The one in the
center would be the 13th. If this pack
was contained by a larger sphere, this sphere could be at the center of another
pack of 12 spheres. The number 13 represents enlightenment, Christ
consciousness, the start of the next octave.
Further to that, within the
12, energy likes to arrange itself into patterns of 7. There are also countless
examples of 7 in our Earth culture, i.e. 7 days, 7 colors in the spectrum, 7
chakras, 7 deadly sins, and many manifestations of 7 in sacred geometry. In
music, most scales are a pattern of 7 notes that exist within the larger octave
of 12 notes. The word 'octave' comes from the idea that the scale repeats
itself starting with the 8th note.
The mystics tell us that
this pattern applies to energy at all levels. If all of creation was separated
into 12 sub-divisions, each of these levels of reality would be a 'realm' or
'dimension'. Ours is the physical/material realm, said to be the third
dimension. Much of the energy that makes up this realm manifests as 'matter',
perceivable by our 5 senses.
